Recipients of the 2023 MSIC Research Seed Grants

Recipients of the 2023 MSIC Research Seed Grants

We received a total of seven applications that encompassed a wide range of topics. We are pleased to see this growing interest in intensive care research as reflected by the numbers of applications for the seed grants in the last couple of years.

The submissions were evaluated by seven members of the MSIC Research Group, consisting of intensivists and anaesthesiologists from the Ministry of Health and Universities. All evaluators declared their Conflict of Interest (COI) a priori and did not evaluate any of their COI projects. The evaluations were first done independently, after which a group meeting was held to determine the winners.

Following the endorsement of the Research Group’s evaluation by the MSIC Executive Committee, we are pleased to announce the following recipients of the MSIC 2023 Research Seed Grants, each receiving RM 10,000 of Seed Grants for the conduct of research:

1. ICU Survivors’ and Caregivers’ Experiences of In-patient Care: Exploratory Qualitative Study.
Principal Investigator: Dr Nur Nabila Qaisha Aswandi
Site: Universiti Malaya Medical Centre

2. A Comparison of Piperacillin Tazobactam to Cefepime in the incidence of AKI in Critically ill patients with sepsis/septic shock admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, Penang GH, Malaysia: a single-centre, prospective, randomised controlled trial.
Principal Investigator: Dr Gaithridevi A/P V. Singam
Site: Hospital Pulau Pinang

Our heartiest congratulations to all the above recipients for their success and we look forward to a productive research endeavour from them.
